The OPS-1 is a professional spatial sound processor specifically designed to assist in the creation of surround sound cinema soundtracks. It allows sound positioning within the sound space in real-time, with a direct and transparent operation that greatly simplifies the work of the sound engineer.
 
The OPS-1 performs the following functions:
  • Compatible with all the industry standard surround sound formats, from 4 to 7 channels in 2 and 3 dimensions, including Dolby Stereo, Dolby Digital, DTS, SDDS, IMAX and IMAX PSE.
  • Sophisticated panning algorithms for smooth, realistic virtual sound positioning.
  • Proprietary Intelvergence function allows adjustement of the virtual sound source focus.
  • Unique spatial sound features, such as the ability to pan stereo sound sources while maintaining adjustable stereo image width.
  • Networked Processor-to-Controller interface, allowing linking up to 8 Processors with up to 7 Joystick Controllers for mutliple sources positioning.
  • Built-in spatial positions sequencer with SMPTE sync capability.
  • LCD graphic display of sound field positioning.

The OPS-1 was designed in 1998. It was originally manufactured by Omnisound Corp. (California) and is no longer available. Its technology has been acquired by Martinsound Inc. and incorporated in their PanMAX Surround Sound Automated Multiformat Panner .
